This increase if causing greater congestion at FruUa than ever, and largely on tliia accoat the trains are often delayed, and emsiderable annoyance and inconraueMe caused.
The need for the early constrndanß I® of the Paeroa-Pokeno line to xdieretlS the congestion and at the same save the long haulage round ft the Waikato to and from Ancfclaad, iS becoming more evident daily. At alii meeting of the Paeroa -Borongk CawSil cil last night, the Mayor, Mr. Marshall, said that it was wkk regret??! that he had learned that the first seetk* of the railway line from Rotoroa t* % Taupo had been commenced. It looked as if the Paeroa-Pokeno line beea side-stepped by the Government, andhe S failed to see how the Departments policy of concentrating on payable tr»4"® lines was being maintained. "from the vexatious delays aad w-'-gf gestion, the long haulage from" fjje Eart 8 Coast round through the vis very expensive and could not be «si economic proposition.
After some discussion the Mayor mo\ ed that the Minister of Railways be urged to proceed with the early eon? straction of the Paeroa-Pokeno riiiwiT, and that a copy of the resolution be forwarded to Mr. A. M. Samuel, 3LP.
