Monthly Sailings From 'Frisco To Australia. NEW AMERICAN ACT. (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) (Received 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 27. Action lias now been taken under the provisions of the new Jones-White Merchant- Marine Act, which was signed by Mr. Coolidge on Wednesday last. The Postmaster-General, Mr. H. S. New, has sent a communication to the United States Shipping Board certifying the seven ocean mail routes which should be established or operated for the carrying of mails as contemplated by the Act. These routes are already under contract but Mr. New desires that they be included under the provisions of the new measure. One of the routes is from San Francisco to Sydney with monthly sailings, an animal mail poundage of 2,217.5.">9, and an estimated five-year volume poundage of 12,198.224.
It is unknown whether the Post Office contemplates any change of the line carrying the Australian mail when the present contract ends.
