JOY RIDERS GAOLED.

THREE MONTHS' HARD LABOUR

(By Telegraph.--J'ress Association, i PALMERSTON NORTH, this day

Henry William Gardner Meech and Colin Charles McAsev, each 20 years of age, were charged before Mr. Stout, S.M., with having unlawfully converted to their own use a motor car. Both pleaded guilty.

The police stated that the car was taken from the square and later recovered at Hawera. Each of the accused was sentenced to three months' hard labour, the magistrate remarking that this class of offence was on the increase. Even the maximum punishment allowed by law was apparently inadequate to stop it.
