FIRE IN CHRISTCHURCH.

EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Early this morning fire did extensive damage in the premises of Thomas Borthwick and Sons in Gloucester Street, presumably starting in the caretaker's cupboaid under the stairs. Two rooms were gutted, and the woodwork elsewhere was destroyed. The amount of the damage runs into hundreds of pounds.

The Fire Brigade received the call at 2.7, and had great difficulty in locating the fire on account of a thick fog which hung over the city and made smoke hard to detect. The whole building was recently given a thorough overhaul and redecorated.
