CHURCHES RENOVATED.

REOPENING ON SUNDAY. PANMURE AND MANGERE EAST. Next Sunday, which Is Palm Sunday. <Whbishop Averill will reopen the Church of St. Matthias, Panmure, in the morning, and in the evening his~ Grace will dedicate Selwyn Church, Manrrere East. .

St. Matthias' Church, which has served the Church of England parish of Panmure for many years, has been thoroughly renovated. The work was started last November. Owing to the ravages of time and the unsatisfactory style of architecture originally adopted, the church had to be almost entirelv rebuilt. Big sacrifices have been made by people of the parish to preserve their historic church, which is one of the oldest in Auckland. The renovation cost double the amount anticipated, and a considerable sum has yet to be raised.

The only church which bears the name of the pioneer prelate who was responsible for the erection of so many places of worship in the Auckland province, Selwyn Church, Mangere East, was erected in 1886 at Otahuhu. It was dedicated in the name of the Holy Trinity. Last year it was removed to its present site, next the Public Hall, Mangere. At a cost of £600 the sacred edifice has been removed and renovated, and the tower has been almost entirely rebuilt.
