UNIMPROVED LAND.
OWNERS WAIT ON MINISTER. "HARD HIT" BY RATING. (By Telegraph. -Own Correspondent.) TAURANGA, this day. The presence of the Minister of Lands, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, in Tauranga for the opening of the new sectiofr of the East Coast Railway, was taken advantage of by owners of unimproved land to come forward with a deputation relating to rating.
In reply to the request of the deputation that legislation be introduced to relieve those who own large areas of unimproved land and are hard hit bv rating on unimproved values, the Minister stated that the Government was fully alive to the position, having had the matter forcibly represented from several boroughs, notably Otaki and Martinborough.
A commission has been set up, he said, to go into the position in Otaki and anv legistetion introduced as. a result of the commission's finding would have general application throughout the
