FIFTY IN THE LEAD.
South Africans Declare With Seven Wickets Down.
M.C.C. AT THE CREASE. (Received 1 p.m.) CAPETOWN, February 7. The final cricket Test match between South Africa and the English eleven was continued at Durban. Replying to the visitors' first innings score of 282, Taylor and Coen, the overnight not outs for South Africa, were confident. Taylor was polished and Coen impressive. The bowling and fielding were excellent and compelled the Africans to abandon their forcing policy. Staples' leg theory also kept down fhe runs. Catterall and Cameron indulged in stonewalling tactics, intent on wearing down the bowling, but later they scored freely and vigorously all round the wicket and the partnership produced 135 in 93 minutes for the fifth wicket. Catterall hit two sixes and fourteen fours. The batsmen were completely 011 top of the tired bowling. When 50 in the lead Deane declared. Holmes went out to the last ball of the first over. Scores were:— ■ SOUTH AFRICA. —First Innings.
