TRIBUTE TO LATE MR. H. H. HUNT.

The work done for the community by the late Mr. Horace Henry Hunt, who died on December 2G, last, has' been recognised by the people of Northcote by the erection of a tablet in brass to his memory in St. John the Baptist's Church, Northcote. Mr. Hunt was the choirmaster of this church for ten years, and as layreader of the Anglican Church for twenty years besides interesting himself in the work of the Church of England Society. He was a member of the Northcote Borough Council for many years, being elected as a member of the first council in 1908. He was instrumental in founding the Northcote Athenaeum, which for a lengthy period provided literary, debating) musical and dramatic entertainment for the district. His capable Charles Dickens and Shakespearean recitals made him known in many parts of the North Island. He was also a well-known Auckland business man, interested in insurance and accountancy, beirfg lecturer in accountancy at the Auckland University College for many years.

The memorial was unveiled last evening by Archbishop Averill, who referred to the sterling worth of Mr. Hunt's work, and said his life had been a strong influence in forming the characters of others whom he had set a' good example to follow.

The .service, which was conducted by the vicar, the Rev. Carew Thomas, was largely attended. The Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, Messrs. H. Cadness and C. A. Deuxberry, ex-Mayors, present and past members of .the borough council and other organisations, were among those present, besides representatives of the Birkenhead All Saint's Church and other Anglican Churches. The choir assisted in the special musical portion oi tlie service, the lesson being read bv the Rev. Thomas.
