SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
On Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Harry Atkinson, of Alexandra Avenue, Mount Albert, gave a bridge party for Mrs. Christie, of Melbourne. The guests were: Mrs. Abbott, Mrs. Armitage, Miss Atkinson, Miss I. Atkinson, Mrs. Bull, Mrs. Chatfield, Mr 9. Christie, Mrs. Coutts, Mrs. Gresham, Mrs. Goldie, Mrs. Self, Mrs. Short, Mrs. Tatterstield, Mrs. Warnock, and Mrs. Young.
A very enjoyable gift tea was given by Mrs. Hector Aekins, of St. Stephen's Avenue, on Wednesday afternoon, for Miss Girlie Maslin on the eve of her approaching marriage to Mr. Jack Osborne. Competitions caused a lot of amusement, and the prize-winners were Mesdames D'Arcy Folkard, J. Laird, and Hulbert. Others present were Mesdames Osmond, Butcher, Craig, Hilliard, Lewis, Finnis, Burmester, Richards, Brandon, King, Misses Maslin, Hennessey, Goldwater and Craig.
The monthly meeting of the Victoria League Ever-ready Committee was held in the league rooms on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. John Reid presiding over a large attendance of members. The secretary reported that the concert given by the sub-committee was a splendid success, £93 being in hand towards the equipment of a cot for the hospital. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the girls for their efforts. Final arrangements were made for Daffodil Day, and it was decided that the Ever-ready Committee should take charge of two stalls. After the meeting Mrs. John Reid welcomed home the Misses Florence and Celia Murray, after a trip of 16 months to England and the Continent, and presented each with a posy of flowers. Mrs. Faire, of the committee, was farewelled on the occasion of her departure for England, and was presented with a leather handbag as a small token of the esteem in which she was held by the members. • • • • The Takapuna Boating Club held a large dance last Wednesday evening, at which the annual prize-giving for the lasi season's boating events took place. Mr. W. Blomfield made the presentation. The supper-room was specially decorated with bunting and flags and the tables with blue and gold, the club colours, flowers and streamers. Amongst the gueets were many representatives from other boating clubs and many friends of the Takapuna Club, including Mrs. Goodison, with Mr. Goodison, commodore of the Ponsonby Club, Mrs. Forsyth, Mrs. Bach, Mrs. Fortzer, Mrs. Tukster, Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Powell, Mrs. Ranibaud, Mrs. Carr, Mrs. N.
