LABOUR AND THE LAND.
MR. HOLLAND'S CAMPAIGN
MEETING AT WHAKATANE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WHAKATANE, this day.
Mr. H. E. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, addressed a meeting of more than 400 people last night. The Mayor, Mr. W. Sullivan, presided.
Mr. Holland strongly criticised the Reform Government and its land policy. He quoted figures to show that an aggregation of rural lands had taken place since the Government took office. It was the poljcy of the Labour Party to break up big estates so that they could be made fully productive under reform. The farmers did not have the freehold, but the mortgage-hold. He quoted figures to show that the farmers carried the burden of capitalism on their backs in the dairy industry, as they did in the meat industry and in all others. He dealt fully with Labour and dairy control, and trenchantly criticised Mr. Coatee , attitude towards the Control Board.
Mr. Holland was accorded a good hearing and his remarks were frequently applauded. He received a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation.
