LONDON MISSIONARY SOCIETY

THE AUCKLAND AUXILIARY.

ANNUAL MEETING

The Auckland auxiliary of the London Missionary Society held its annual meeting last evening in Beresford Street Congregational Church. The attendance was moderate. The chair was occupied by the president, Rev. Ivan Stebbins. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Key. Stebbins; vicepresident, Mr. John Jarvis; secretary, Rev. Mark Finch; treasurer, Mr. P. C. Totman; auditor, Mr. R. H. Fisher; Watchers' Prayer Union secretary, Mr. A. it. Brown.

An address was delivered by the Rev. W. Mawspn, lately a worker in the Presbyterian Mission Church to China. He paid a tribute to the good work accomplished by the past workers under the various Christian Missions in China. Mr. Mawson said as far as possible missionaries kept themselves quite distinct from politics, recognising that their work was of a spiritual character. The speaker threw many sidelights on the present position in China, and expressed the view that out of the present turmoil, under some strong leader, good would ultimately result for the nation. Mr. Maweon, speaking strongly, stressed the point that the work of the missionaries had succeeded in China to a greater degree than was generally understood. The Cross of Christ had been strongly planted in that land and must in years to come bear fruit.
