Thai he wished he had never seen New Zealand was the sentiment expressed by a bankrupt immigrant fanner named Arthur Chirney at a meeting of creditors to-day. His schedule showed debts to secured creditors. £4773, and to unsecured creditors, £IS3, which represented hi«s deficiency. In a written statement bankrupt stated that lie came to New Zealand from England in July. 1024. and was then worth about £900. He worked on various farms till January 1025. when he purchased 53 acre* near Hamilton for £501)0, paying £125 deposit. By March. 1026. he had paid £556 19/0 (which was practically the whole of his cash) to the mortgagees. Milk cheques from 13 cows averaged £12. The expenses of the farm were approximately £450. exclusive of legal costs and living expenses. In Janu* arv, 1910. his wife advanced him by promissory note. £500. which was used on his farm in England. A bill of said was executed to her over the stock on ;iie farm. He walked off in October la*U His wife exercised her rights under the bill of sale, and with the proceeds, paid accounts. She had about £40 left. Bankrupt was closely cross-examined regarding the bill of sale. He admitted that he wanted his wife to get something out ot the wreck. He had paid far too much for tile farm, which was bought through ail agent.
