PONSONBY REQUEST.
DEPUTATION TO COUNCIL. RECONSTRUCTION OF JERVOIS ROAD. A large and representative deputation of Ponsonby ratepayers waited upou the Auckland City Council last evening and urged that the reconstruction of Jervois Road in concrete should be continued for the full length to the tram terminus ■t Heme Bay Road. The deputation was introduced by Councillor M. J. Bennett.
The first speaker was Mr. W. B. Leyland, who said that the deputation had come, not to criticise, but to plead. The deputation understood that the present proposal was to concrete the road only as far as the tram harn. He pointed out that with the development of Westmere and other properties across Cox's Creek, hundreds ot houses haVl been built, the population nad increased by thousands, and there now a circular route to the zoo. He urged that it would be f-conomical and in the best interests of the city to concrete the full length of the road. Mr. J. A. Moody said that it was understood -when the loan was carried the road would be concreted as far as the Herne Bay Road intersection. He claimed that it would be economy on the part of the council to concrete all of Jervois Road.
The Mayor said that the council realised the importance of the work, and that the matter would be fullv considered.
After the deputation had withdrawn it was decided, upon the motion of Cr. M. J. Bennett, to refer the matter to the Works Committee for a report.
