The Auckland crew, A. D. McGregor, and J. McMasters, by winning three races bring the Cornwell Cup to the Waitemata. C'hristchurch had two wins, Otago, Southland and Hawke's Bay one each. The winning crew, of the Takapuna Boating Club, received an ovation yesterday from the competitors and the public -■which lined the breakwater. Great interest was taken in the contest. The cups and medals will be presented by the Mayor of Lyttelton to-night, and the winnings crew will arrive home on Monday morning. The eighth and final race was continued yesterday in a nice sailing northeast breeze, the course being one round to windward and leeward. A start was made at 1.30, the crew and boats were: Auckland in the Winsome; Christchurch, in the Kaiiwi; Lyttelton, in the Wetu; Southland, in the Sea Pearl: Otago. in the Comet; Wellington, in tlie Wee May; Hawke's Bay, in the Tio. From a good start "Southland was first away, with the others close together. The Southland, Lyttelton and Auckland crew s worked close in to the Lyttelton shore, with Otago, Hawke's Bay and Christchuxch more in the centre of the harbour, while Wellington made a. long board across to the peninsula snore. The boats now worked towards Battery Point and the Auckland crew slowly drew ahead with Christchurch, Lyttelton, Hawke's Bay, Southland and Otago following in this order. The Auckland crew further improved their lead, working up to windward well and keeping on the weather of the others, the Christchurch crew bein» second, Lyttelton third. After makin* Battery Permit Point the three leadinc boats stood out on the port for the turning mark off Ripa Island. Auckland and Christchurch kept together but Lyttelton made a board further out, and did better, replacing Christchurch for the second place, but they could not catch Auckland. The Auckland crew got their spinnaker up, drawing inside 30 seconds, and after rounding it was a procession down the wind to the lee mark, all being well •trung out. Auckland rounded the pile light 2m. 20s. ahead of Lyttelton, which wasi 40 seconds ahead of Christ church, with Hawke's Bay two minutes later. Others were far astern. It was only a long leg on the starboard to the finishing line, and the race resulted:
The other crews did not cross the finfehing line, going straight in to the boat liarbour.
