ATTORNEY WORRIED.
! ORMISTON CAUSES TROUBLE. MAT PROTECT EVANGELIST. CHICAGO, December 17. Kenneth Ormiston, the radio man who, after a long search in connection with the Mrs. McPherson case, is under detention here, has not been formally arrested. The impression is growing that District-Attorney Keyes, of Los Angeles, is heartily sorry that the famous Angelus Temple radio-man has been caught. Ormiston, as a fugitive from justice, was a far more damning witness than the same man declaring dramatically in Court that the chestnut-haired evangelist was not his companion at the Carmel Cottage during her absent weeks last May. With the ablest lawyers and an unlimited expense fund, Ormiston will make a vigorous fight against extradition, which Keyes must accomplish or lose, his political status in California. If Ormiston evades extradition—and there is a fair chance of his doing that —the perjury charge against Mrs. McPherson would probably .have to be dropped. Keyes could hardly expect before a jury to convict the woman while the law allowed the man in the case to go free. And if Ormiston is forced home to Los Angeles he would probably enact the romantic role in Court of protecting Mrs. McPherson to his fullest power. The case is likely to fail. Ormiston's father has threatened to disown his son if he turns against Mrs. McPherson, and helps the prosecution. "I would like to have him here and yive him a spanking. He needs a thrashing after his activities, but if he is a man his mother and I will stick to him," said Ormiston, sen. Mrs. McPherson accepted the news of Ormiston's arrest with the remark: "It is of no consequence to our case.'"
