COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.
SEQUEL TO MOTOR FATALITY. PROCEEDINGS AT TAIHAPE. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, this day. The circumstances surrounding the fatal motor accident at the foot of Kawa Road on December 11, when George Robert Sutherland was killed, were investigated by the district coroner, Mr. J. P. Aldridge, yesterday. After lengthy evidence, in which, the police and two doctors certified that Malioney ■was drunk at the* time .of.-the accident, the coroner gave a verdict that deceased was killed by the overturning of a ear driven by Mahoney while the said Mahoney was in a st<;te of intoxication. A charge of manslaughter preferred against the driver of the car, John William Mahoney, was withdrawn by the police, and.the following — That, while in a state of intoxication and in control of a motor car, he, by an act of omission in relation thereto, caused the dealh of deceased. Mahoney pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. _ Bail in two sureties of £100 was allowed.
