TAKAPUNA TRAMWAYS POLL.
BARE MAJORITY REQUIRES. VOTING UNTIL 7 P.M. The poll to decide whether the Takapuna Borough Council is to exercise its opinion for the purchase of the Takapuna tramways and ferries is being held to-day. Polling is being carried on in the Chamber of Commerce, Swanson Street, Bayswater. Bebnont, Takapuna, and Milford. The poll closes at seven o'clock this evening, and it is expected that the result of the voting will be made public : from the council chambers, Takapuna, about half an hour later. Arrangements have been made for the result of the poll to be posted up outside the : 'Star" Office, Shortland Street.
The number of persons on the roll is 3690, of whom 2910 are ratepayers and 780 enrolled residents. A bare majority only is required.
Provided that to-day's poll is in favour of the proposal, the Local Bodies' Loans Act requires a second poll to be held, on the question of raising the necessary loan money for purchase and electrification.
The final meetings of the campaign were held last evening. Mr. C. A. Deuxberry, Mayor of Northeote, pesiding at the municipal meeting at Takapuna, and Mr. R. Foreman at the opposition meeting at Milford. ,
