A CLIMATIC RESERVE.
THE MATOGATAUTARI RANGE. ACQUISITION BY LOCAL BODIES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) "CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. Negotiations extending over a very lengthy period in connection with the acquisition of an area of 38.50 acres of the Maungatautari Range as a climatic reserve were advanced a step towards the desired objective to-day, when a conference of interested local bodies' representatives \va3 held at Cambridge. The local bodies represented were: Matamata, Waikato and Waipa County Councils. Cambridge, Borough Council and Leamington Town Board.
The conference was the outcome of the Government finally agreeing a short while back to provide for the purchase of the area up to 1.3/ per acre.
After a thorough discussion of the whole matter, the meeting resolved to recommend to their respective bodies the purchase of the area at 20/ per acre. If acceptable, the Matamata. County Council would be requested to endeavour to effect the purchase.
The meeting arrived at a basis of the proportionate cost to the local bodies concerned as follows:—Matamata. County Council 30 per cent. Waipa County Council 30 per cent, Cambridge Borough Council 25 per cent, L«amington Town Board and Waikato County Council 7} per cent each.
