ROBBERY IN CAMP.
ASSAULT BY A MASKED MAN. LABOURER SENT FOR TRIAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. In the Police Court to-day, Neils Peder Sorenseu Hansen, a labourer, aged 34, pleaded guilty to two charges of theft involving five shillings and a hat from workmen at the central camp at Miranui. Accused was sentenced tt» fourteen day's gaol on each charge, to be concurrent. Accused was also charged that, on October 14, at Miranui, he did assault Meredith Fitzsimmons with intent to rob. Pleading not guilty, he was committed for trial at
the Supreme Court. Senior Sergeant O'Grady stated that accused went to Fitzsimmons hut when the latter was in bed, and demanded money. Accused, who "was masked, caught Fitzsimmons around the throat and struck him several times over the head with some stones tied in a. handkerchief, injuring Fitzsimmons eonsiderablv.
Evidence on these lines was given by Fitzsimmons and other witnesses, who said they identified accused by his build. One witness ?aid that accused next morning, when detained at the mill, admitted, gobig into Fitzsinimons' hut and asking for money, adding. "I suppose 111 get six months for it.'
