WAITEMATA POWER BOARD.
The Waitemata Electric Power Board met this morning, the chairman, Mr. J. \\. Hayden, presiding. Supply of Power.—The Minister of Public Works wrote stating ihat full investigation of the position forced him to the conclusion that power could uot be snpplied to the board before the end of November next. The main contributing factor for delay was the uon-arrival of the transmissiou-liue towers, which were due for delivery in June last. With the exception of two special tower's for Gieenhithe. now on the water, the order was completed. The towers had yet to he erected and the line strung, a "swrk that the engineers anticipated, uuder the most favourable circumstances, ivouiil occupy three mouths. Community Lighting at New Lynn.—ln reply to a request from shopkeepers at Xew Lynn for particulars iv regard to a ccaiinunity lighting system, the engineer reported that the cheapest and best arrangement would he to connect the lamps from rhe present street-lighting system, whereby the annual charge on a flat rate basis would be £o for a -00 c.p. bracket lamp, and £7 for a JUO c.p. suspension lamp. If the lamps nere connected to a separate system of wiring, the cost would be slightly higher. Power and Lighting.-The engineer reported that units were used in July, compared with 30,DU> during tue previous mouth. Uevonport Amalgamation.—The chairman reported' that the amalgamation with Devonport Korough would probably oe gazetted during the present week, and he then intended to address public meetings at Xorthcote, Takapuua aud Devonport to explain the operations and policy of the board.
