PROTECTION SOCIETY.
The committee of the Societs- for the Protection of Women and Children and i'reventlon of Cruelty to Animals met on Monday afternoon. The secretary reported that 36 new cases liiid been dealt with during the month. Of these 10 dealt with troubles between husbands and wires, 14 concerned children, two mothers ajrainst children for support, two young s'rls, nve affiliations and three various matters. Two cases were .aken to Court and orders made by the magistrate. The Inspector (\V. and C.) had persounlly Investigated n large number of these eases, and had spent several morn-logs In Court. Captain Lee (P.C.A.) reported that he had jiiveii ten warnings in cases of ill-treat-ment or npßlect tci horses and cattle, md had humanely destroyed eight horses, six doss and three cats. He hud visited all the sirburbs ami country districts surrounding the city, inspected tips, city destructor, visited Westneld saleyards, wharves, city markets, and attended races. It was resolved to report two cases of tetanus in horses that had occurred at WeetOeld Spring to the Health Department. The Inspector had destroyed both horses. lie the suggested division of the society, the matter is still under consideration, it was resolved to call another meeting of. the committee in a fortnight's time to receive a report from the Buli-committeo. It was resolved to advertise a warning to parents re danger to little children unattended at picture shows as demonstrated by a recent ease in Wellinston.
