SHORTAGE OF POWER.

DRY SPELL AT MANGAHAO. PEAK LOAD AFFECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Owing to the scanty rainfall the Mangahao electric power system is affected. The level of the water in the dam has been falling and a call has been made on the Evan's Bay station and the Palmerston North station to assist at the periods when the load is heaviest. The great increase in consumption has brought the demand on Mangahao up to its capacity. The situation will be relieved when the third dam is completed. A Public Works Department official states that there is no occasion for alarm. Assistance ia required only during the peak loads.
