WAR RELIEF FUNDS.
REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE. THE FUTURE PROSPECT. A printed return laid before the recent conference of patriotic societies in Wellington gave some particulars of the administration of the funds raised for the assistance of returned soldiers which are of interest. The total expenditure for the year ending December 31, 1925, was £08,348 15/(5, including £56,442 JO/5 for relief, £11,926 for comforts, £10,727 17/ for salaries, £5310 8/9, and £13,941 13/7 for miscellaneous expenses. The receipts (including £48,324 2/ for interest), totalled £01,049 17/4. The total assets in the hands of societies on the same date amounted to £1,154,132 2/10, of which £742,274 was invested, £36,370 18/ on fixed deposits, £10,023 9/3 in the Post Office .Savings Bank, £175,529 1/9 in land and buildings (including £103,605 11/11 in Flock House farm, and £20,626 18/4 in current account. An estimate of the probable life of the principal war funds of the Dominion showed:—Auckland province, 23 1 years; Gisborne, 39J years; Hawke's Bay, 21 \ years; Wellington province, 13 years: Waverley, S5 years; Wanganni-Waito-tara. 20 years; Hunterville, 4ft years: Marton, 1.0 to 20 years; Bulls", etc., 9 years; Feilding, 4i years; Manawatu, 28 years; Pahiatua, 27J years; War Relief Association (Wellington), 10 years; Nelson, 16 years; Marlborough, 90 years; Christchurch, \\\ years; Ashburton, 25 years; Timaru, 10 years; Greymouth, 5 years; Dunedin, 15 years; Oamaru, 51 years; Southland, 24 years. The total number of applications for relief in .1925 was 10,613.
