MINISTER WILL NOT RETRACT
The president of the New Zealand Natives' Association has received the following reply from the Hon. A, D. McLeod, Minister of Lands, in reply to the telegram sent by the association asking him to retract his statement made in Christchurch to the effect that unemployment
is no worse this winter than it has been during the last two years:—"Your telegram received. I see no reason for retracting statement made in Christchurch. Your own telegram shows that the first object of your association is to discredit the Government's immigration policy.— (Signed) A. D. McLeod." I Engine trouble caused a delay at Newmarket to last night's Limited express for Wellington. A relief engine from the 7.45 p.m. ordinary express was dispatched from Auckland, and the Limited, which was conveying the Prime Minister and party, continued her journey at 8 p.m. On account of the delay the ordinary express was 40 minutes late in leaving Auckland.
