WAITEMATA POWER BOARD.

CANNOT EMPLOY MORE MEN.

The matter of unemployment was brought before the meeting of the Waitemata Power Board to-day by a letter from the Mayor asking that the board do whatever was possible to help to, relieve the situation. The chairman (Mr. J. W. Hayden) said he had made inquiries regarding the board's works and he did not see how it was possible to employ any more men. There might be contingencies arise a little later to enable them to give further employment, but there was nothing for more men to do at present. Although there was a shortage of wiremen, there was a surplus of labour generally offering. The appeal of the Mayor was "received," it being stated that the board would see what could be done later on.
