MOTORS IN COLLISION.
ACCIDENT AT PANMURE. OXE DRIVER SEXT TO GAOL. Two motor cars, one driven by John William Pickett and the other by a man named Gladding, collided on the main road, at Panmure about five o'clock last evening. The car driven by Gladding was seriously damaged, a tyre being torn off, both mudguards bent, also the body of the car, while one of the wheels of Pickett's car was wrenched off. Constable Gatward, of Panmure, happened along just after the accident had occurred and arrested Pickett, who appeared before Messrs. Sigley and R. B. Todd. J.P.s .at the Otahuhu Court this morning on a charge of being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. He was also charged with not having a certificate of competency. Constable Gatward said that accused was considerably under the influence of liquor. Pickett stated that he had been repairing a car yesterday when a friend pressed him to go for a drive. Just prior to the collision, he eaid, the front wheels locked and his car shot across the road striking Mr. car. On the first charge, the Bench, in sentencing Pickett to seven days' imprisonment, remarked that 'he had endangered the lives of everybody on the road. Accused was convicted and discharged for failing to have a certificate of competency, the Bench ordering that a license should not be issued for at least six months.
