CHRISTCHURCH MOTOR SMASH
CAR AND CYCLE COLLIDE. ONE MAN KILLED. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Sunday. There was a serious motor accident on Page's Road on Saturday afternoon, when a motor cycle and side car carrying four men collided with a motor car in which were seven adults and an infant. The four motor cyclists were admitted to the hospital, where one of them, Mr. R. Milner, died this Morning. Of the others, it was reported to-day that Mr. Calder had been operated upon and was progressing. Mr. D. McKenzie's condition is serious but improved. Mr. J. Haase's condition is not serious. The motor car was driven by Mr. W. McDonald, of Swan's Road, who was not injured. Five women passengers in the car were treated at the hospital for minor injuries, and discharged. A male passenger and an infant escaped harm. There was a good deal of motor traffic on .the road from New Brighton on Saturday ■ afternoon, including motor cyclists returning from the beach races. The motor oar was travelling at only some 15 miles .in hour. The heavilyladen motor cycle was unable to negotiate the corner without running off the left-hand side, and it struck the right front spring and wheel of the oncoming car. smashing both, besides shattering the wind shield and damaging the radiator. The side car was torn in half.
