ACROSS THE ATLANTIC.
SPANISH AIRMAN'S FLIGHT.
LONDON, January 31.
The Gibraltar correspondent of the '"Central News" says that taking advantage of favourable conditions, the Spanish airman, Commander Franco, who is flying from to Argentina, left Cape Verde Island at 2 a.m. on Saturday on the trans-Atlantic flight to Fernando do Noronha, an island in the South Atlantic, 125 miles from the eastern extremity of Brazil. Commander Franco landed in his seaplane on the sea off the island on Saturday evening. The machine was towed into the harbour.
The airman has now flown 3305 miles. The next lap in the flight will be tha 270 miles to Pernambuco, on the mainland of Brazil.
A message from Madrid says there is great jubilation in the Spanish capital at the success of Commander Franco in bridging the Atlantic—(A. and N.Z.)
