TOO MANY SCOTS.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Commissioner Lamb is to be commended for his outspokenness on the subject of immigration. Any unbiased observer must admit that "the Scot is too much with us." In these days of Scottish dominance one is pleased to see there is one institution in which the Scot does not attain supreme power, or even high place. That institution is the Salvation Army. During a residence of some years in Scotland, I was struck by the fact that the Salvation Army Corps in Scottish cities were largely officered by Englishmen. This was the more remarkable, because, at the same time, a Scotsman was Archbishop of Canterbury. I am heartily in agreement with Commissioner Lamb that the immigrants New Zealand requires is the kicking Englishman, and, in this connection, would suggest that Lancashiremen should receive preference over all other applicants.—l am, etc., LUNE.
