SLIPPERY STREETS.

(To tne Editor.) Sir, —I have noticed in your paper a request to the City Council from the Horse Carriers' Association re slippery roads, which is deserving of favourable consideration. To say it is all due to overloading is ridiculous. I have been driving an express cart in this city for the last seven years. As a lover of horses it breaks my heart. With an empty cart my horse would slip and slide all over the street, especially in Hobson Street, Wakefteld Street, Anzac Avenue and other streets. And yet the horses get no sympathy. It is not a fair thing to the horee or the man who is trying to earn a living. Every carrier cannot afford to buy a motor lorry (which I have had to borrow to do), for I could not bear to see my horse slide any longer. My horse is turned out, and if any one would like to see her slide, I will bring her in and give them a few slides down our city streets. The streets are all right as far as cleanness, wear and tear go, but why not give the horses a. chance?—l am, etc., THOS. BLAYNEY.
