The company at Trentham has been a bit too good for Tamatete. He looked well, but in a handicap event appears to have lost his dash. Kilburn ran a greatly improved race in the llungaroa Highweight Handicap at Trenthain yesterday compared with his first effort. Wristlet, on her first day's running at Trentham, was given a good chance of scoring in the Douro Cup. but she was never dangerous. The weight (S. 10) stopped her. Cornstalk, a three-year-old gelding by Buckwheat, owned by Mr. H. Aeon Adams, ran well in the Trial Plate at Wellington yesterday., finishing third. A race should go his way before long. Phoenix Park has run a couple of good races at the Wellington Meeting, and he is sure to add to his winning record before long. Yesterday he wa« third in the January Welter. Dal Eaton, a membeT of J. T. Jamieson's team, has been sold to go to Australia, and he will not compete again at the Wellington meeting. Dal Eaton has a fair dash of pace, and has performed fairly well this season. Listening Post ran much more generously in the Racing Club Handicap at Trentham yesterday than he did in the Cup, and finished third. He seems to have gone sour, and causes trouble at the barrier. En Route was confidently supported for the Mungaroa Higbweight Handicap at Trectham yesterday. He was well up till the straight was reached, but then fell back quickly and finished well last. Lady Desmond won again at Trentham ye3terday. She was again fractious at the barrier, but -when the tapes were released was soon in front, and stayed there. She has a great turn of speed, and is certain to win other juvenile events this season. Joy Bird, which won the Camp Handicap yesterday at Trentham, is an Eng-lish-bred filly by Argosy from Almond. She is owned by Mr. W. Higgins, who has Kilbronsyth. The former i 3 trained by R. OTJonnell, and the latter by E. T. Yuile. Battkment ran out wide on the first day at Trentham, but yesterday he kept on the coarse, and was prominent for a good 'way, though he finished out of a place. With a little more racing the full-brother to The Cypher will be some good. MaTtulla finished fourth in the Wellington Cup on Wednesday, and was thought to have a- good chance in the January Welter yesterday. She was well back entering the straight, but pnt in a brilliant run over the last bit to beat Father O'Flynn by a head. Danae, the Catmint —Marabout filly in E. Pope's stable at Ellerslie, was started in the Trial Plate at Trentham yesterday, and was well backed. She never looked like a winner at any stage, always being about the centre of the field. Cawnpore ran another great race in the Metropolitan Handicap at Trentham yesterd?y. He drew No. 4 position at the post, while Lady Cavendish had Xo. 2. At the turn he got stopped, and then "went on again to beat all but Lady Cavendish. Cawnpore is a good game horse., which will win more races. Westbroke ia a good sort, and lie put in a great finishing effort in the Trial Plate at Trentham yesterday, just getting up to Plain Sailing a* few yards from the post, the judge declaring a*dead heat. Many were of the opinion that Westbroke just won. With a rise of 7H> he was produced again in the Camp Handicap, but failed to get into a place. Plain Sailing, the half-sister to Wassail, by Warplane, was produced in ■the Trial Plate at Trentham yesterday, and went very near landing the stake, Westbroke just making a dead heat of it. She was not very well fancied, ■because it was doubtful whether she would stay out seven furlongs. She did so all right. Star Ranger led for a long way in the Wellington Cup, and yesterday in the Racing Club Handicap" he was in front practically all the way. Star Stranger wras conceding him a good start a couple of fnrlong3 from home, and just failed to reach him on the post. The pair were coupled on the machine, otherwise Star Ranger would have returned a long price. Son o' Mine was improved by the race she had on the first day at Trentbam, and with a furlong shorter to go yesterday lasted long enough to win the Mungaroa Highweight bj half a head from Kilburn. Bon o' Mine used to race in the Auckland district in the colours of Mr. Eliot Davis, and subsequently was disposed of to hia trainer, P. Davia, who has had him ever since. He paid a useful dividend. Wild Work was started at the Wellington meeting yesterday, but before the field was dispatched injured one of her hind legs, and just cantered back to the post behind the field. She is credited with being very fast, and if breeding Sjoesfor anything she should have pace. Jhe is by Autumnu3 from Helter Skelter, by Antagonist—Fleetfoot. dam of Flying Start, First Flight, and Flagfall. * KHpeTOT) which Showed promise in the K£ J"w he WOT, the Debutante At Wanganui, and also recently Morwl at (2* Maiww«io and Wairarana meeting. has .urted on a coupLof VZtTSZ - he ~ Wefl ™«** meeting uS week, bT,t favJed to get into a place He was going w-IT a . f&fong from home in the Nursery Handicap yesterday, but failed to see it out. Kilbronsyth is one of the beat hacks mat have been seen for quite a ion? while. He is a fine big gelding, and finish** with great dash. Yesterday he was onaking a run on the rails, -with only JWnee to beat, but the latter went right acrosß him and checked him. Kilbronsyth was then pulled to the outside and simply walked past Diopnnes He riWW " « Qod re «P«ou on returning to , Scale, and deserved it. X
