The weather was dull and Threatening at th- e commencement, and later rain fell, but it was no: sufficient t.o interfere with the meeting. There was a large attendance, and the rac-Lnsr was again firstclass. En Route Performs Poorly. The Mungaroa Welter saw all go to the post. En Eoute carried about £1000 more than The Tank, while Kiiorum was most, fancied of the others. The Tank was the early leader from Son o' Mine, Kiiorum. and. Hn Route, but going along the back Son o : Mine took charge, only to be headed by En Route and Matu, with. Kilburn just behind Son o' Mine. Matu led across the top from Son o . Mine. En Route. The Tank. Kilburn, and Kiiorum. Entering the straight Kilburn had run up into third place behind Matti and Son o' Mine. At the distance Son o" Mine and Eilburn. drew out and in a good finish, Son o' Mine won by half a head, with The Tank two lengths away third, followed by Kiiorum and Matu. En Route compounded badly at the top of the straight. A Dead-heat, Westbroke was entrusted with, about £.500 more than Tannadiee for the Trial Plate, while Danae -was nearly as well backed as the latter. Capitulation was left. Cornstalk was first to show out from Sasham, Plain Sailing, Westbroke, Danae and Joyeuse. Cornstalk and Plain Sailing led across the top from Sasham, Westbroke, Capitulation and Desert Knight. Cornstalk and Plain Sailing were first to turn for home from Westbroke, and at the distance Plain Sailing and Westbroke singled themselves ont, the judge declaring a deadheat, with Cornstalk two lengths away third. Sasham was placed fourth, -while Mint Leaf, Tannadiee and Royal Mint were next. M&ituHa. Wins WelL All paraded for the January Welter. Phoenix Park carried £430 more than Martulla, with Royal Diadem next fancied. Agitato and Printemps led along the back from Father OTlynn, but as they crossed the top the order was Agitato and Printemps together, Blonde, Father O'Flynn, Snatcher, Royal Diamen, Roues, Good Sport, and Tresham. Agitato and Elonde led into the straight from Roues. Father OTlynn and Printemps. At the distance Father .O'Flynn was in front, but Martulla was ■ coming fast on the outside, and galloping over everything, was soon alongside i Father OTlynn, and beat him by a neck. Phoenix Park was three lengths away third, with Tresham. Rouex. Tarleton, and Snatcher ia that order. Lady Desmond Again. All started in the Nursery Handicap. Lady Desmond, which won on the first day, carried nearly twice as much as Paper Boy, with, the bracket (Note and Spode) next best backed. Wild Work received a knock on one of her hind legs before the start, and only cantered down behind the field. Lady Desmond shot away, and was soon in front, leading on to the course proper from Elthein. Elequent, Kilperon, and Battlement. Lady Desmond was challenged by Kilperon at the distance, but the latter was soon done with, and Lady Desmond went on to -win by a length from Elthein, which beat Note by a similar distance. Paper Boy, Kilperon, and Battlement were next. Star Sanger at Last. Gala Day was the only scratching for the Wellington Racing Club Handicap, and the public went for the bracket Star Stranger and Star Ranger, entrusting it with about £1200 more than Enthusiasm, -while Listening Post was next fancied. Fool's Paradise led pa&t the stewards' stand from Star Ranger, Star Stranger, Listening Post, Kilceit and Surveyor, with Enthusiasm last. By the time the back stretch was reached Star Ranger had ran to the front, and was attended by Fool's Paradise and Star Strairijsr together. Clarinda, Enthusiasm, Listening Post and Surveyor. Star Ranger held his position across the top. and there was ' little change in the order except that Listening Post had improved hi 3 position. Star Ranger wa3 first to turn for home from Star Stranger. Fool's Paradise and Listening Post. Star Ranger was well clear at the distance, and, hard ridden, beat Star Stranger by a head, with. Listening Poet three lengths away third. Fool's Paradise. Surveyor and Clarinda followed as named. A Good Hack. Kilbronsyth carried abont £1000 mor e than Polyphemus, -while Wristlet was best supported of the others in the Douro Cup. When the barrier lifted Mountain Top and Bon March were left. Senenade was soon in front from Diogenes and Kilmiss. Serenade led across the top from Anklet, Diogenes, Kilmiss. Polyphemus, Oreum, and Wristlet. Entering the straight the order was Serenade, Diogenes, Anklet, Gilmlss. and Kifbronsyth. The lastnamed then pnt in a run on the rails, but at the distance Diogenes went right across Kilbronsyth, and he had to pull round Diogenes, but came again to -win by half a length. Anklet was three lengths away third, with My Hobby. Serenade, Oreum, Mountain Top, and Corinthic next. The Sprinters. Lady Cavendish. wa3 about £100 better backed than the bracket (Grand Knight and Black Cat) for the Metropolitan Hanricap, with Cawnpore carrying only about half the amount invested on the latter. Pelham lost several lengths at the start, and when the field turned for home Lady Cavendish was in front, with Ilka, Grand Knight, The Thorn. Tamatete and Cawnpore almost in line. Lady Cavendish went on to win by a length and a half from Cawnpore. which beat Black Cat by a length. Grand Knight. Set Sail, Ilka and Tamatete were next. The Concluding Event. Dal Eaton, which ha* been -old to go to Australia, was the only withdrawal from the Camp Handicap. Nine oi Spades was first fancy, beinc backed to the extent of abont £500 more than Westbroke which dead-heated with Plain Sailing earlier in the day, and was rawed /Id in weight Mino'tus was ith.rd in order of selection. favourite, Joy Bird, and Serotina. were the most prominent on the course proper, bur at the distance Minotus and salamis appeared. However, Joy Bird, ridden out, won by half a length irom Minotus, which beat Salamis by a length. Newbury King, Nine of Spades. Serotina and Westbroke were next. The Stewards' Handicap contains the names of all the best sprinters in Auckland, and with all the other events filling well all that ig required is fine -weather to guarantee a successful gathering. The heavy storm -experienced throughout the province on Thursday and yesterday resulted in the flooding of the Bay of Islands Racing Club's course at Kawakawa, and the meeting set down for decision yesterday had to be postponed. The club have now been granted permission to hold the meeting at Whangarei on Tuesday next.
