FRENCH CIVIL SERVANTS.
DEMONSTRATION IN PARIS. ROCKS IN SNOWBALLS. PARIS, January 18. A number of Civil servants attempted to demonstrate in Place de ]a Concorde ggainet their salaries, which they declared were lower than they were last year. The Government made the greatest show of force seen since the war. It posted cavalry and steel-helmeted municipal guards and- police in all the streets leading to the Place de la Concorde. After an unsuccessful attempt, the demonstrators threw snowballs, in which were concealed rocks. Several arrests were made, and this quietened the remainder of the crowd.— (A. and X.Z. Cable.)
