MINING NEWS.

NONPAREIL. A few pound of stone from the Nonpareil mine, Thames, has been sent to tne office of the secretary, Victoria Arcade. The stone napped Into small pieces shows blotches or coarse gold freely. Apart from the mineral showing, the quartz itself is of an excellent class for carrying gold. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Alburnia.—The manager reports that the Norwegian level has been cleaned and timbered, and laid rails to a point IOSOft from the entrance, and leaving according to plan about 20ft to be picked up to reacn the face. The country is of a wet, puggy nature, making progress slower. Lucky Shot. —The following is the report of the local manager for two weeks ending 31st October; —"The low level has been advanced 17ft, and has passed through several small leaders. There is a quantity oi water coming from the face. Apparently the Evening Star leader has altered its underlie a little. The country in the face Is everything that could be desired, and the leader should be cut at any time: Another two men made a start to clean out the low level which was driven by the Evening Star Co. to cut the reef which has been located ■ by Mr. E. F. Adams' survey staff. It was worked on in Mellett's level, about 150tt above oar low level. The reef is 4ft wide, dipping west at an angle of 4in to the foot, and according to survey, the Evening star Co. had been driving parallel to the body of stone which gave good values in the level above. It Is estimated about 45ft will require to be driven to pick It up. The level has been cleaned out, rails laid, and air pipes put-in position for a distance of 100 ft. There remains another 50ft to be cleaned up to bring us to the old face of the drive " New Waiotahi.—The mine manager reports that at the intermediate a connection has been made with the drive below, the junction of the two reefs being ahout 4ft hillward of the connection. This ground will be taken out when stoping is commenced, and thus save winding the mullock; the reef has been small, and no gold was seen, for the week, but the country continues favourable. The~ crosscut for the Waiotahi-Cam'bria reef has been advanced 4ft, leaving 23ft to reach the estimated coarse of the reef. The country continues solid and tight for working. A little moisture is showing on a head, making down the face. Rising Sun.—The mine manager reports that all stoping blocks are looking well. In the No. 1, S. block. No. 1 reef, cleaniag up prior to filling and timbering in hand. The rise from this 'block to No. 3 Level will be started as soon as the filling and timbering is completed. For the week October 22 to 2S, ten stamps ran 37.38 hours, ( crushing approximately 27 tons ore, worth £5 6/2 per ton.
