BENEFIT CONCERT.
• FOR MR. H. HEMUS. Another full bouse greeted the benefit performance for Mr. H. Hemus of "Mr. Piui Passes By," by the Grafton Shakespeare and Dramatic Club, last evening, and the high standard of work shown on the first night was maintained. The play was well cast, but the part of Olivia was exceptionally well portrayed by Mrs. Frank Turner. Mr. , Ernest" Blair gave a very clever performance iof the part of George Marden, J.P.; whilst a moat interesting conception of the absentminded and somewhat bungling Mr. Pirn was given by Mr. W. H. Graham. Mrs. Pilkington as Lady Marden gave a forceful character sketch; while the part of Dinah was in the hands of Miss Rosie Kidson, who showed great versatility, and gave almost pleasing Interpretation of the part. Miss C. Meale carried out the duties of the maid Anne in a finished manner, and the work of Mr. Rex Fairburn, as the young painter, Brian Strange, showed promise. In a short speech made by Mr. A. V. Perm reference was made to the great work done in the club by Mr. H. Hemus, and on behalf of the committee he thanked all members and friends for their hearty co-operation, which had resulted in making the complimentary ■ benefit to their late president such a success. As a result of the production a ; substantial sum will be handed to Mr Hemus as a token of the love and esteem in which he is held by the club.
