CHILD ON THE LINE.

TRAIN STOPPED IN TIME. A RESOURCEFUL DRIVER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, this day. As the express train was entering Hukerenui railway station yesterday afternoon a number of children who had been playing on the track climbed on to the platform, leaving an infant girl exposed to imminent risk of death. The enginedriver observed the danger just in time to pull the train up within ten feet of the child by promptly applying the brakes, and at the same time using sand to prevent the wheels slipping.
