WINDOWS BROKEN. - Mabel Isabel Stout (32) came up for sentence on a charge of drunkenness, and another of having wilfully broken two panes of glass, valued at 11/. It'wa.s previously stated by.the senior sergeaiic that accused, when under the influence of liquor, sought admittance to a- Hindu's place. When she was refused she then broke the windows. The Probation Officer was unable to recommend probation for the woman. On the drunkenness charge accused was fined .i/ or 24 hours and on the other fined £2, and costs £1 11/. BREACH OF PROBATION. . On a charge of failing to comply with the terms and conditions of his release on probation. George Ebert (40) appeared to be dealt with. The Probation Officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, stated that Ebert was placed on three years' probation on August 20, 1923, on three charges of false pretences. He was ordered to make restitution of £27 10/, and, although his probation expired next August, accused had not paid a single "penny, while he had also failed to report. ' He was a married man with four children, and had also paid nothing on a maintenance order. Ebert had been in a good position, and could have paid something off the restitution.
Accused stated that lie only came out of hospital on August 6, and that he immediately reported to the Probation Officer, as well as supplying a medical certificate. On the original charge of false pretences, accused was sent to gaol -for three mouths.. SENTENCES FOR VAGRANCY. In the "Star" of yesterday's issue it was stated that James Edgar Steere {oi) received a sentence of three months' imprisonment for being a rogue and vagabond, also that George Ross (51) was given twelve months on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person. This was a mistake, owing to a clerical error. Ross was sentenced to three months' imprisonment and Steere to twelve months.
