OVERCROWDING OF BUSES
I (To the Editor.) ; Sir, —Kindly allow mc, as representing one of the general public, and a lover of fair play, to offer a few words in ■ support of your correspondent repre- : senting the Auckland Motor Bus Associa-, tion. On a recent Friday evening at about 7.15 I happened to be travelling citywards in a Parnell car, and at the j second section at Garfield Street the i car was overloaded to the fullest extent, : even to women and children on the ; platforms. On coming to the steep hill the motorman kept the car well under control, not allowing it to get beyond a walking pace. I am sure Councillor Thompson is out of his reckoning in his statement. In any case, considering the circumstances, it is a wrong position to j place any man in, as controller of traffic, representing as he does a body directly j concerned in keen competition. —I am, etc., ARTHUR CUMMINGS.
