TROUBLE AT LYTTELTON.
PHOSPHATES AND GUANO CARGOES.
ANOTHER SERIOUS HITCH.

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday.
Another hitch has occurred with regard to the discharge of phosphates from the Pearlmoor and guano from the Penmorvah. As it was raining on Friday morning the men engaged at these vessels were ordered back for an 8 o'clock start on Saturday As it was still raining then the men were again told to make an early start thi3 morning. They were standing by at 8 a.m., and when the weather cleared two hour's later they refused to turn to unjesa they were granted full pay for Friday and Saturday. The companies concerned state that the men are entitled only to standing-by time from 8 till 10 o'clock on Friday and the same on Saturday morning, and cannot claim any remuneration for the intervening time. A meeting of the disputes committee was held this afternoon, when the employers' representative asked Mr. J. Flood, the workers' representative on the committee, to endea\ T our to get the men to resume work and to leave the present dispute, together with the previous one, to be decided by the National Disputes Committee at Wellington. The men declined to follow this course unless their demands were granted. Some of the Union Company's hands already engaged at the Pearlmoor were subsequently transferred to the Karetu.
