MONET THE CAUSE.
(By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright) ,
(Received 12.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 10. As police officers surrounded the apartments in San Francisco of Charles Schwartz, a professor of chemistry, wanted for the "scientific" murder of G-. E. Barbe, an itinerant missionary, Schwartz committed suicide. Schwartz mutilated Barbe's body to make it appear he himself had been killed while experimenting with an artificial silk formula. The object of the crime was to collect an insurance of £30,000; also to avoid a suit for breach of promise of marriage. (A. and N.Z. Cable.)"
