» The shortage of fresh eggs is now somewhat pronounced, with the result that quotations are now given at from 2/9 to 3/- per dozen retail. The end of the Lenten fast does not seem to have in any way decreased the consumption of eggs. Bacon and hams are selling freely, but ample supplies are available. Bacon in cuts ruled from BJd to 1/4J per lb, and rashers 1/3 to 1/5. Whole hams, retail, are quoted at 1/1 to 1/2 per lb, and rashers 1/G to 1/8. Butter and cheese show no alteration in the retail rates. Superfine factory butter is selling at 1/8 per lb, first grade at 1/7, and second grade at 1/(5. Farmers' make is 1/4 to 1/5 per lb, cheese 1/2 to 1/4, extra choice 1/G per lb.
