CUTTING THE CORNERS.
OFFENCES BY MOTORISTS
HAMILTON FINES DISCUSSED,
{By Telegraph.-0 mi Correspondent.)
HAMILTON, this day
Recent fines of £5 inflicted upon motorists for cutting the corners of Collingwood Street were termed unreasonable by Dr. Brewia at a meeting of the Hamilton Automibile Association last evening. The doctor said many people from the country did not know the purpose of the "silent policeman" recently erected at the Collingwood and Ward Street corners. When a man had "cut the corner" in ignorance of the by-law the line appeared a very harsh and wicked one. Mr. Hodd said one man was recentlyfined £10 for cutting a corner. Mr. Erson: The police in Hamilton are noted for obtaining their revenue from those who break the by-laws. Dr. Pinfold did not agree with the statement of the previous speaker, and said if a man cut a corner he should be fined f.")0. Cutting the corner was going on every day, cyclists being the worst offenders. Some deterrent was necessary. i Mr. Erson: What are really wanted are by-laws defined ill a simple manner. They are too difficult for a layman to interpret. Mr. Gilbert said lie intended asking the executive for permission to produce a book outlining the by-laws. The incident then dropped.
