NEW RANGIRIRI ROAD.
OPENING DEPENDS ON WEATHER.
CEREMONY ON MAY
If the weather continues favourable this month the opening of the Rangiriri deviation may be delayed until the beginning of "May, though permission has been granted to the Auckland Automobile Association by the Public Works Engineer to use the deviation to-morrow and during Easter week in the event of rain. But, as there is still over half a mile of road uiiblinded. it is desired if possible to postpone the opening long enough to complete the work and give the metal time to consolidate. Saturday. May 2. is now expected to be the date of the ceremony marking the opening of the new road and the closing of the clay track over Rangiriri Hills. So many" members of the Auckland Automobile Association have been bogged on Rangiriri and have had to spend the night there in the ruin and mud that it has been decided to mark the passing of the old conditions by holding a ceremonial meeting of the Auckland Association and the Hamilton branch. The ceremony will mark the completion of the metalling on the four-mile deviation and the end of the Rangiriri Hills, which have been such a bugbear to Auckland motorists. A meeting of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association is being held to-night to make final arrangements.
To-morrow telegrams will be received from representatives of the association in all districts for the information of motorists intending to set out for the holidays.
