WAITAKERE KAURI RESERVE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —To tke civic authorities of this city much credit is due for their timely action in taking over the wonderful kauri lands of Mr. C. E. Anderson, high. Up in tile "VVaitakere Ranges, where n-oody nature is seen at work in one of her busiest workshops. Here stately kuuris flourish, and spread massive arms over the less majestic flora, and pines of all kinds beckon to the city dweller to come and seek rest and shade and inhale an ozone invigoating to a degree. This property has been acquired with the idea of ensuring a further and more voluminous supply of pure water to the city of Auckland and its environments fer all time. I was amazed to learn that no warden had been appointed to protect these lands from the vagaries of unthinking people. Surely Mr. Anderson is the one person to whom thi3 poeition should be given, for his intmate knowledge of the location shouU recommend him alone, and in some way compensate him in parting with lands v> hie h all lovers of trees will agree cannot be compensated for merrly in hard cash.—l am, etc., K. KEN'EALY.
