TRANSPORT TOR ALBANY.

(To the Editor.) i Sir,—The Hon. Mr. Coates, when speaking at the opening on Saturday of the Albany Show, is reported aa saying: i "The settlers were now isolated after a shower of rain in winter and they were confronted with mud up to their knees."' The Minister went on to point out the advantages of railway transit. This statement as to the muddy state of the roads is calculated to mislead the uninitiated, as there is a good metalled road from Birkenhead to Albany, and for some miles beyond. Moreover, that road has been declared a "main highway." The Birkenhead end of it has already been macadamised. The Minister's remarks therefore can only apply to the by-roads connecting with the main road* These remarks are equally applicable to most by-roads feeding the railway. The metalling of all these crossroads is a matter of time. Albany ha 3 the additional advantage of water transport by means of Lucas Creek, tapping the heart of the village. —I am. etc., JOHN A. BEALK
