PURCHASING DEPARTMENT.

HARBOUR BOARD PROPOSAL. The proposal to set up a purchasing department by the Auckland Harbour Board was dealt with in a report of the departmental committee presented at yesterday's meeting of the board. During a short discussion it was decided to set up a special committee, consisting of Messrs. Clay, Henderson, and Macindoe, to organise a purchasing department to take effect on May 1, The department is to be in charge of Mr. F. Robinson, the board's secretary and treasurer (Mr. H. B. Burnett) to be the administrative head and to have the title of superintendent. ,The chairman (Mr. H. K. Mackenzie) said that members would have full opportunity to go into the proposal when the special committee's report was presented.
