APPRECIATION OF SERVICES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday,

Arising out of the coming retirement of Archbishop Julius it was recommended to the Diocesan Synod this evening .that he be granted a pension of £700 per annum, free of income tax, and that the stipend of the new Bishop be £1400 per annum.

A preliminary conference to deal with the position created by the Archbishop's resignation will be held to-morrow.

The Synod placed on record the regret with which members received the announcement of the Archbishop's retirement, and their appreciation of his long and faithful services to the Church.
