LABOUR DAY CELEBRATIONS.

Reports in connection with the Labour I Carnival are moßt encouraging, and the committee anticipate that the success that attended the function last year will be surpassed by the elaborate programmes to be submitted on thi-s occasion. The record nominations for all events i s a pleasant surprise to the officials, the latest being that no less than 25 football teams have entered in place of the eight that was anticipated. This may render it necessary to complete the seven aside soccer on Monday. The Highlanders are again in prominence, and will commence their programme at Carlaw Park on Saturday. As the number of items is so great that they cannot be finished in one day, they will be brought to a conclusion on Monday. The officials of the Northern Boxing Association are booked for a great task, the programme in this connection being exceptionally heavy. The Newsboys have taken up their contest with great spirit, and should provide interesting entertainment for the faris. The first appearance of C. Purdy, Irish Olympic champion, is a prominent feature "of Saturday's programme, and he will spar with F. | Hansen.

The Colonial Ammunitiion Company I are sparing no effort, and will provide a display of rockets early on Saturday evening, and the Pipers Band will parade with their Highland following. Sunday is an important day with | Labour people, the presentation for the first time of modern loud speaking amplifiers making the programme one that will appeal to the public. Prominent artists aro giving tlieir \ services. The addresses by prominent '•lergy, under the chairmanship of Mr. Savage, M.P., Deputy Leader of the Parliamentary Labour party, will be conveyed to the audience.

Monday's programme will be in the Domain, and from 10 a.m. events will proceed to the heavy programme of Highland dancing, basketball, gymnastic displays by Comrade Boys' sports, children's sports, athletic events (under the control of the Akarana Sports Club). The toys for children unmber 1500, the Highlanders' prizes number 72, basketball events take 15 prizes, the boy's sports another 50, and the total cost of prizes for sports events is £400.

The carnival will conclude at Cariaw Park on Monday evening with Highland parades, grand marches, dancing, fireworks, and balloons, and the finals of boxing events.
