TWO WORTHY CITIZENS.

HOSPITAL BOARD'S SYMPATHY. Feeling reference was made last night by Mr. William Wallace at the meeting of the Hospital Board to the deaths of two very well-known Aucklanders. The first was the Rev; Robert Sommerville, father of Mr. H. A. Sommerville, the secretary of the Board. The late Mr. Sommerville, said the chairman, was a man of sterling character, one who did { yeoman service as a pioneer of the , colony, and had been closely connected I with the Presbyterian Church for many years, both as minister and clerk of the presbytery. They greatly deplored the death of such a worthy citizen, and extended their sympathy to his family. They had also to deplore the death of Dr. T. W. Leys, who was not only an Aucklander, but a New Zealander. His loss was a national one, not merely a local one. Dr. Leys had laboured practically the whole of hie life for the good of humanity. In education matters he was particularly prominent, and his work on behalf of the university wag a monument of which any man might be proud. In the coming years, when Auckland was struggling for recognition as a separate university, Dr. Leys would be greatly missed foi; his championship of the claims of this part, of the Dominion. The Board passed votes of sympathy with the families of both Mr. Sommerville and Dr. Leys.
