NEW DIOCESE SUGGESTED.

HAMILTON PROPOSED CENTRE.! I A COMMISSION TO REPORT. j The matter of relieving the Bishop of j Auckland from part of his heavy duties was discussed again at the Diocesan j Synod yesterday afternoon, when Mr. | C. J. Tunks moved the following resolu-1 tions, which were carried: "That in the opinion of this Synod there is urgent necessity for the subdivision of the diocese of Auckland; that in view of all the circumstances now existing, the most suitable division would be the creation of a new diocese, with Hamilton as its centre: that a commission be now appointed to suggest the boundaries of i such new diocese and to report to the | standing committee, which is hereby. authorised to approve of the same on: behalf of this Synod; that such commis-' eion shall consist of the archdeacons of j Auckland, Waikato, and Taranaki, Canon , Haselden, the Rev. P. S. Smallfield, Mr. i W. H. Skinner, Mr. Hewitt, Mr. Hogben, j and the mover; that a commission be' now appointed to consider the business' and financial provisions necessary to be j made in connection with the creation of such new diocese, and to report to the standing committee, which is hereby authorised to approve of the same on behalf of this Synod: that such commission shall consist of the Yen. Archdeacon Mac Murray, Mr. C. Hudson, Mr. A. B. Roberton, Mr. H. Gilfillan, Mr. T. U. Wells, Mr. J. Hogben, Mr. C. F. Bennett, air. D. Hay, Mr. W. C. Hewitt, Mr. E. W. M. Lysons, Mr. P. W. Shaw, and the mover; that upon the approval 'by the I standing committee of the proposed bounI daries of the new diocese and of the Jproposed business and financial provisions in connection with the same, the representatives of this diocese in General Synod be authorised and requested to move in General Synod in February next for the creation of such new diocese."
